How much are you worth? In a word, priceless. There is no physical value that can be attached to your soul.

Are You Repossessed?

What do you possess? What is yours? It may be easy to think in terms of money and what money can get you. Money in your possession certifies that you did some sort of service for someone in exchange for that money. The amount of money given for that service represents the value of that service. Likewise, when you are willing to part ways with your money, it is because you value something as worthy of exchanging the money for. The more you give, the more you value it.

What have you given in exchange for your car?

What have you given in exchange for your home?

What do you give in exchange for food?

What do you spend on your spouse? Your family?

What do you spend on travel and vacation?

What do you give the church?

These questions are not posed to make you consider the priority of your spending (though that is important). They are posed to make you consider the fact that what you possess and value comes with a cost.

When we were born into this world, we belonged to God. Solomon said that when we die “the spirit will return to God who gave it.” (Eccl. 12:7) The only problem is that each of us encounters a point in life when sin enters in and snatches us away from God. When we become accountable for our actions, we suffer the result of sin… a separation from God. (Isa. 59:1, 2) We exchange sin for death. In essence, sin steals us away from the One who first possessed us as innocent children.

When sin takes possession of us, we become the only thing that God doesn’t possess. But, He wants us back. He wants us more than anything. He already possesses the rest of creation, but is just going to destroy it one day. How much, then, is the world really worth?

How much are you worth? In a word, priceless. There is no physical value that can be attached to your soul. That’s why Jesus said, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matt. 16:26) Of all the things that you can take possession of in your life, God already possesses them all. The one thing outside of the possession of God is the sin-stained human race. But, we are the only thing that God values. We are the only thing that He had to purchase. While there is nothing we can give in exchange for our priceless souls, God purchased us with the priceless blood of His Son. Nothing else could have been exchanged.

Sadly, most of the time, God does not get what He paid for. Though the world has been purchased with the blood of Christ, most of it isn’t up for sale.

Jesus paid the price for you. But, He can’t have you if you’re not on the market? He can’t get what He paid for unless you want to be possessed by Him.

Life Leading to Life

The older I get, the more I experience the deaths of loved ones. The closer I grow to God, the more precious I see the death of His saints (Ps. 116:15). One definite truth of life is that no one is getting out alive. One day will be my last day. One day will be yours.

The Life You Always Wanted

I’m not impressed with the person who has everything and is content. I’m impressed with the person who has nothing and is still content. You can have everything you’ve ever dreamed of having and still not be content.

The Hopelessness of Idolatry

This is the second of the ten commandments: “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;...(Ex 20:4-5).
